BlackBerry devices make business communications easier
The BlackBerry is a wireless handheld device very popular especially in the business world. This supports push e-mail, mobile telephone, text messaging, internet faxing, web browsing and other wireless information services. Developed by the Canadian company Research In Motion (RIM), it delivers information over the mobile phone network and some models also work over a WiFi network.
It comes with mini QWERTY keyboard and colour screen. The keyboard mainly suited for "thumbing", the use of only the thumbs to type text. For navigation the blackberry uses a trackwheel (or "thumbwheel"), located on the right side of the device. Newer models are now utilizing a trackball in the middle of the device as RIM has moved from the trackwheel to the trackball.
In addition to the usual portable digital assistant (PDA) applications (address book, to-do list, memo etc) its main popularity is for emailing via the mobile phone network.
There are an extensive number of models that offer a range of features including
- GPS
- USB and Bluetooth connectivity
- Digital camera
- Micro-SD external memory support
- Lightweight
- Instant messaging
- Two way radio
The GPS function can also be used for route planning with BlackBerry MapsT or upgraded to full satellite navigation.
