AS400 / IBM Mainframe
An introduction to AS400/IBM Mainframes
"Mainframe systems" are typically found in manufacturing and industrial environments. Over the past 10 years, IBM have dominated the market with SUN Microsystems also providing offerings for this highly specialised area.
The AS400 range of systems was introduced in 1988. In 2000 IBM rebranded it to e-Series, and in 2006 it was again rebranded to Series-i. Now, the range has quickly evolved and developed, and IBM offer many different flavours.
Typically these systems run a Unix operating system, but many run customised Linux distributions written specifially for the purpose for which the server will be used. Modern Series-i systems can however accomodate the full raneg of OS's from Microsoft Windows Server, OS/2, AiX, Linux, Unix and Domino.
Mailsure provide support and maintenance for AS400 derived systems from the earliest platform right through to a brand new Series-i. We have trained AS400 engineers.
